Will I be forced to extend my contract to meet my DEROS date?

I'm currently in Korea and my DEROS date is a month after my ETS date. I was told by a career counselor that I would have to extend my contract to meet the DEROS date. I have no desire to do so. I would like to know if I would be forced to extend or can I just keep my ETS date.

You were required to extend your contract prior to being sent over to Korea. Now that you're there, you can't be forced to extend. You can never be extended against your will except for a court martial, or being investigated for a court martial.
However, if you don't extend you will ETS from Korea and miss out on any CSP programs that are offered stateside.
You can tell your Career Counselor that HRC has said in their monthly newsletter that after the Soldier arrives in an OCONUS assignment, the Soldier no longer incurs an SRR for the DEROS.

Yea....you're gonna have to extend. Mainly because I do not believe the Army will let you ETS while still in Korea. I'm not even sure they can shift your DEROS to the left so it's before your ETS.

They will move your deros to two days before your ETS. Have your S-1 submit a FSTC. S-1 Clerk stationed in Hawaii we deal with this all the time its routine. They cannot make you change your ETS date. Have you talked to your S-1?

No not yet just the career counselor. Is getting a FSTC difficult to get approved and how long would that process take?

SPC (Join to see) - takes like thirty days and depends on the reason but usually ets is automatic approval but it has to go all the way up your chain of command to hrc and hrc makes a decision and moves your deros so however long that takes can depend how quickly your chain pushes it up. They may make you sign a dec statement which means you will be barred from reenlistment but they may not. But in the case of ETS FSTC which stands for foreign service tour curtailment are pretty automatic but in other situations you need a solid reason.
