I'm not too sure about graduation but do remember a Marine who wore his blues to our high school prom. So maybe this may be a way around this restriction by high schools. And we had a few guys who didn't attend our graduation exercise because they were in Navy Boot Camp...They enlisted a day or two after graduating from high school and missed the graduation a week later. But the Korean War was going on then & guys had volunteered while still in high school and left for basic after they graduated.

Schools have had to clamp down on dress codes over the years to prevent or discourage students from donning all sorts of wild costumes. While a military uniform is not a wild costume by any stretch it does typically fall outside established guidelines and dress codes to have everyone in a traditional cap and gown. A graduate who has somehow completed boot camp or is authorized to wear a full military uniform would be well served to check with the school ahead of time to see if they will make any exception to their policies. Better to not blind side them on graduation day.

I forget the rules when I graduated from high school but several of my classmates had joined the National Guard and Reserves while they were still in high school. They liked having some extra cash and had to attend Guard and Reserve Meetings once a month & two weeks of summer camp. But I don't recall anyone wearing their uniforms to high school graduations. We were at war in Korea then and that may be the reason for it because Korea was constantly in the news and on TV with horrific casualties.. Maybe the military didn't allow it???

Most colleges allow the ROTC & NROTC officers to wear their uniforms at graduation.
