PFC (Join to see) I would suggest testing the new weapons using a range of shooters. Have some of the Special Operations guys who can shoot fleas off a dogs ass at 100 yards, some infantry guys, and some novices. Some folks who maybe are just learning how to shoot. Some who haven't developed any shooting habits. Those who will be learning to use a weapon for the first time. That way you have the experts who can give a good assessment overall of the weapon, but you can observe the novices to see how simple the actual weapon is to learn. As for the Marines adopting the new weapon, it isn't surprising. I would really be more surprised if they didn't try to standardize the sidearm across all branches.

Need better weapons to handle those wearing body armor.

Handguns don't handle body armor very well.

SSG Tom Pike - that's true, wonder what a Desert Eagle in .50 cal. would do though.

SGT David A. 'Cowboy' Groth - With a Desert Eagle, if you can't get through the armor, at least you are left with a heavy blunt object for skull bashing.
