I worked for then MG Hertling in Iraq in 2007-8; it is good to see him again, speaking in those thoughtful, modulated tones he was known for a decade ago.
It is interesting that everyone seems to be suggesting that somehow 50 Soldiers was some kind of impediment to the Turkish military invading from the north. The Turks have sent three divisions over the berm, with air support. Not to mention the 17,000 or so Syrian military forces advancing from the south, with Russian support.
I am glad our people are out of harm's way.
As for what to do next, that will depend on how this winds up. If Syria can reestablish sovereignity, that should reduce the chances some cite of an ISIS resurgence.
