If we leave Afghanistan I see the Taliban and the Govermental forces fighting for a long time. Neither have ideologies that can be reconciled. Neither side has the ability to defeat the other.
Syria is a lot more complicated as it has Turks, Russians, Iranians, Free Democratic Forces, ISIS, Syrian forces, and Kurds in the mix.
