Back almost 50 years ago, when I was studying Forestry in college, we discussed this very issue. The gist of the discussion was that unless the USFS and other responsible agencies changed their forest management and wildfire control policies it was a question of when not if we would see huge catastrophic fires in the western forests. This article could have been lifted straight out of those lectures and discussions.
