CPT (Join to see) I agree partially, they have always been at war for ages and yes with "These tensions are mainly driven by political issues and not sectarian ones. The 2005 assassination of Rafik Hariri, Hezbollah's expansions, the Syrian revolution, the Arab Spring, the recent Saudi execution of a Shiite Cleric are all political events that increased tensions between the two groups".

Its an interesting study. The area has been in turmoil for years and I don't see it ending soon. I wonder about the Iran/Iraq war. Wasn't that all about Sunni verse Shia also? I wouldn't discount entirely the rift between the two, but it makes sense that there are other factors behind the nationwide discord.
