Great article! I'm an American Legion Lifetime member and have notice many of the issues you have mentioned in various posts I have visited as due to PCS. On a note: something it should do better is to increase support to transitioning service member as part of the transitioning process; as you mentioned in the article. It would be great to sit down with a well versed Legionnaire in matters of VA claims, etc...

When I was actually around a post ( Ft. Benning) to be exact while I was still active duty, I was a member. When I retired from the Army and moved to Florida joining a lodge wasn't really something that was on my mind. I am 48 and I guess it's not really something I am interested in because I am not really around a group of veterans in the area that I live in to actually persuade or promote joining one.

My dad was a life time member of both this and the VFW. He was a Chaplin for the American Legion here in St. Louis and performed so many burials for Vets at Jefferson Barracks. He was on the marching band that performed at the Orange Bowel yet I cant join because I served from August 1975 to August 1981 and neither recognizes The Cold War as anything. Very Sad thing. Heck my Uncle was Post Commander even. But you are correct. My son-in-law did two tours in Iraq before being hurt by an IED yet he has zero interest in joining. I think it brings back too many bad memories. He suffers from PTSD
