Necessity over novelty: Buy an item that meets your needs at the price you can afford, rather than overspend on a similar item with unnecessary bells and whistles.
Imagination and being outside kept us happier than video games and the latest trends.
Being content that it's still functional even though it's not pretty.

Being humble. Just because you have it now doesn't mean that it can't or won't be taken from you down the road. Also, don't rub what you have in another person's face. The person that you make feel bad because you have X now will be the same person waiting to remind you of your lost when it's gone
