linux can be configured as a firewall using iptables or ipchains
linux can use samba to become a windoze file server
linux is free and has a builtin virtual disk manager that allow you to setup infinitely
expandable (subject to hardware & power limitations) file systems
most linux distro have zen or virtualbox so you can actually run windoze (why?) on the same machine.
