How interesting that he was a WWII veteran. How sad that so many celebrities and wealthy scions of his age volunteered to defend America while so many in today's age not only avoid service, but also demean it as merely a refuge for the poor and disenfranchised.

"the poor and disenfranchised" You're exactly right that people feel this way today. I've been told that the only reason I joined the Army is that I wasn't smart enough to go to college, yet I commissioned.... These people have no idea how the military works at all.
