I had read this article when it first came out, never came across your post until now, this is choked with some good info for many to utilize, hoping my responding can bump it up for others that may want to view it can.

While I agree with the tips it gives, I disagree with the number one tip - excitement.  Excitement, I would also call it attitude, is certainly important but you can get places without the perfect attitude, you cannot navigate career transition effectively without a network.  I like how it touched on that but called it leveraging new relationships.  Leverage those as much as possible, if the other parents you meet are not single parents they have a spouse who works somewhere and those connections are a great place to start.  It takes more than that though such as attending professional groups, networking meetings, etc in the industries you are interested in.  The more relevant connections you have the easier the transition will be and the easier it will be to remain positive.  Finally, treat the transition as a job.  Use your values in a way which will benefit you.  Learn to define your value with the VALUES you bring to any organization and eventually they will look at you!!  Just a few thoughts to add to the piece....
