A few thoughts:
- Mass killers target soft targets such as schools because they want to kill as many people as they can. Their reasons can vary from mental illness to religious to they are just demented pricks.
- The obvious counter is to ensure schools are not soft targets. It is not a question of if but how to harden the schools against threats. Solutions include preventative and reactive measures.
- The how can be affected in one or various ways to include but not limited to: police at schools, armed security at schools, controlled access into schools, and/or eliminating "gun free" zones that only law abiding people recognize.
- The answers, specifically to allowing guns, can be different for each level of schools. For example, we should not allow the students at an elementary school to arm themselves but we should allow students at colleges and universities to arm themselves.
- This is not a hard problem to solve. Some people are overthinking it and letting politics get in the way of lower level, cost reasonable, and practical solutions.

No. Because People Kill People.
However...
If more can't be done to protect these "Gun Free Zones", then yes, allow it, and I would be all for it as I would rather see 1 potential gunman taken down or dissuaded from his act by 50 responsible weapons, than 50 unarmed people killed senselessly by one idiot with a gun...

Only with trained professionals. There are guns there now, the question is do we add more.
