I think this SNCO is spot on with his comments. One of the reasons I dropped paperwork at 20 years was because of the "zero defect" mentality and the lack of true leadership at all levels. Looking good in front of the Boss and "checking the boxes" took precedence over getting the job done.

I agree that he is spot on. It always made me sick to see E-7 and E-8 make rank on the broken backs of their people. While the MSgt and SMSgt who do the right thing and take care of their people get the shaft just because they are not part of the "good old boy/girl" system. When I became a SNCO, I made it all about the Airman and NCO's. Taking care of them, training them, mentoring them, and leading by example.

This guy (or girl) nailed it. I often confuse my troops when I remind them that they don't work for me. I work for them. Its a concept that is lost on many, but any true leader stands by it.
Unfortunately, I once saw a really bad SMSgt chase out several great MSgts with his management style. Finally, the AF caught up with him and away he went. But the path of destruction he left really scarred the unit.
