U.S. military helicopters are some of the most badass aircraft in the world.
Since 1942, the U.S. military has used thousands of helicopters for reconnaissance, transport, and combat support. Developed in the 1930s and used in warfare a decade later, the helicopter differentiates itself from the airplane by using rotors to take off and land vertically, hover, fly forward, backward, and side-to-side — providing the military with an unparalleled amount of in-flight flexibility.

Interesting, I know the Osprey has the ability for vertical lift but I never thought of it as a helicopter and since it is the V-22 I don't think navy considers it a helicopter either.
I am glad to see the helicopters I am familiar with included namely the UH-1, AH-1, UH-64 and AH-64 and the CH-47.

The Army was so restricted on the use of helicopters till during he Vietnam war the Air Force demanded we turn over the Caribou. We agreed but only if they would remove the restrictions on rotary aviation for the Army, and the rest is history
