Sub par cost of living increase - Tricare doubles while historically there's a surplus. Sounds about right.

Earned veterans' benefits continue to be targeted while un-earned social welfare benefits are considered untouchable. My explanation? Demographics and social shifts. Veterans represent a tiny voting block in comparison to Medicaid and other welfare recipients, and the social ethic has shifted from "what's best for the nation" to "what's best for me."

I don't debate that. Veterans (to include retirees) are a smaller component of the voting public, and we tend to be scattered around the country. Thus, our influence is diminished with the professional politicians.

I am just jealous that retirees have the ability to voice their feelings and have formed relatively effective interest groups to fight these yearly proposals. Meanwhile, the currently serving are muted and I feel like we are taking it on the chin.

When I was in, Ret 06, there were many organizations that represented the rank and file in the military. Non-commissioned officers association or something like that is one I remember (almost). The commissioned officers had several too.
