ABSOLUTELY!! I live and die by this simple piece of equipment. I had shin splints last year before and a couple of weeks into Drill Sergeant school. The foam roller works. It's uncomfortable at times but that's because it's doing its job.

While at drill sergeant school we got a block of instruction on foam rolling. Rolling that IT band SUCKS!!! That's pain.

I was only doing it for my hips. Doing it for the IT band simply sucks.

It is awesome, it can be a great self torture device that improves mobility after a good workout.

I love it and was introduced to the concept of foam rolling in our THOR3 program. It rehabilitated and helped me from an injury. Foam rolling before and after a workout to get loose was a norm.

When the foam roller want't doing enough or not getting in a particular spot, we used tennis balls. This can be painful if you are not used to it but it works.

I've heard of the tennis ball alternative. I'm not trying it any time soon, though.

I've never used a tennis ball but I have used a lacrosse ball. Ouch.
