Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen I can foresee a belt or a switch action behind closed doors in this kids future at the minimum and possible grounding with severe restrictions on movements for a remainder until they turn 18 and leave the house

SGT Jim Arnold - Um, there's study after study after study that proves hitting children (including spanking) doesn't do any good. So just because you got abused as a kid, doesn't mean it was a good thing. Or that you didn't break the generational trauma and you beat your kids, doesn't mean it was ok.

In fact, "many studies have shown that physical punishment — including spanking, hitting and other means of causing pain — can lead to increased aggression, antisocial behavior, physical injury and mental health problems for children."

If you mess up at work, whenever you have had a job, would you allow your boss to spank or hit you to "discipline" you? Would you ever hit your spouse if you got upset with them? I doubt it - but yet you find it ok to hit children.

I spanked my kid one time and I will never do it again. It was pointless, it did nothing but make her want to hit back and it doesn't solve any behavioral issues. I mean it's too late for you but I'm all for breaking generational trauma.

Oh and the society we have now was created by Boomers - who were beaten as kids...so...yeah.

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff - that's a general BS statement. do you want to throw the silent or the greatest generation in there also"? my kids are grown and gone and all are doing well.

SGT Jim Arnold - What generation raised millennials and Gen X? Who gave us participation trophies that we never asked for? (Although they have existed since around 1920 and were given on military bases in WWII as well). Boomers.

Silent Gen and Greatest Gen were wrong if they beat their boomer kids too. Hence the concept of breaking GENERATIONAL trauma. Key word - generational.

Why do you want people to be able to hit kids so much? I don't get why adults want to be able to beat their children.

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff - stop trying to judge adults by their behavior from the historic past with the latest in standards. you were not there. this study wasn't written in 1920 or even in 1980. I'm only guessing but think the bible and religion guided parents on rearing of offspring. Some adults were just plain mean. does it make it right? No. I was never mean to my children. I made them sweat it out for a few hours before I spoke to them.
