People are always wondering how Trump and Sanders got to where they are, especially since one knows next to nothing about domestic or foreign policy, and the other is a self identified democratic socialist. This article illustrates that it's not their positions and promises, but the surrounding social, political and economic climate that allows them to thrive.

If people simply wanted an alternative to Hillary, they could just as easily hitch a ride on Mandel's campaign train. No, I believe that Bernie's promises of free stuff and a strong central government taking responsibility for everything is just too appealing to children who don't want to grow up.
Trump's appeal is his bluster and thunder. He is saying all the things that many people are feeling. Sadly, they're not yet taking the time to think about what he's saying. He is making no attempt to hide the fact that he is just as progressive and to the Left as Hillary. President Trump would be little different from President Hillary.
I pray that the children will grow up and dump Bernie, and select a more centrist candidate (certainly not Hillary or Warren), and the anger will subside sufficiently for those on Trump's bandwagon to stop just feeling and begin thinking.

Most people supporting Sanders aren't drawn to him because of "free stuff." Similarly, people aren't voting Trump because he is going to build a wall and kick out every illegal immigrant. People understand both of those things are unrealistic yet they still support them. It has little to nothing to do with what both are saying and has everything to do with what they represent.

Cpl Joshua Pitts - Trump is very vocal and honest about his "principles". Single payer health coverage (Hillarycare). Federal power to seize assets and redistribute them to those who will "make better use of them". (Hillary, too) He even donated to Hillary's earlier causes. The problem is that people are ignoring all this and listening only to his rants against career politicians (saying what most of us are saying).

I hear all the reasons but It still makes me want to scream. We don't need either of these two running or in charge and HRC needs to be fitted for an orange jumper.

There is no way that this country can support Bernie's agenda and Trump can rant until the cows come home but is not able to tell us how he is going to fix anything. Do you remember in 2008, when the Nation voted for someone who also had great empty promises, because they sounded and felt really good?
Do we really want to do that again? The point is, we need a conservative in office - the question is "Who?"
