Well, no one should ever believe that the American public is particularly knowledge about military matters. The simply believe what they are told to believe (not all, many most who participate in polls).
The military is partially to blame. The Pentagon often extols the virtues of some foreign weapons system to help build their case for a greater budget. However, they will never advocate trading military hardware and forces, will they?

One of the ways to get a bigger slice of the budget pie (or to increase the size of the pie) is to loudly proclaim the upcoming inferiority of your own product and the absolute need for more money to improve it before "they" get to be Number 1.

You can have a cannon, but if you are unwilling to fire it due to orders from above, does not mean that you aren't powerful. Just lacking in leadership. As long as we have the "cannons" we are the most powerful, waiting for competent leadership.

COL Ted Mc - I can't recall the USA ever doing that, if we have been to quick, I can not recall the time. We tend to go from cautious to timid. We are seeing the results of timidity, on a world wide scale.

This is due wholly to the half ass "leadership" this nation has been poorly subjected to for the last seven years. This bullcrap kowtowing to our enemies, kissing Middleastern ass, and crying on public television. That's NO way for the leader of the greatest nation on God's green Earth to behave.

Bill Kim - Mr. Kim; You don't think that those who are completely ignoring reality and moaning about how "weak" the US military has become (on the basis that the funding cuts that they insisted be implemented as their price for agreeing not to force the US into defaulting on its financial obligations [but we don't mention that, do we]) might have had even the tiniest bit of effect on what the American people believe?

COL Ted Mc - oh Col, it has to do with the people too, but the commander in chief was voted for by the "people" am I right? I'm not a huge fan of how this society is going with its Million Student March and all these bullshit movements where they demand everything but truly do nothing to deserve it, least of all work. I'm all for the military, myself, sometimes I wish I had stayed in and gone Marines to be honest (too old and busted now)... I'm not going to lie either, I thought maybe Obama might have what it was going to take to make some change. Oh, he made some change... For the absolute WORST, never in my life did I think I would be cheering on the Russians and French like I have been since August. I'm 43, so yeah, I remember to Cold War, so I also can't fathom why idiots would even remotely want someone like Bernie Sanders in office. I'll stop now before I go off on more tangents than I already have.
