I think this is wrong as long as Cuba continues to commit crimes against its people when it comes to freedoms.

This is true. But we feel we need them. Or at least we use to need them. What do we need Cuba for?

PO2 Mark Saffell - Agreed. The only strategic value I see with improving relations with Cuba, is that it is in fact 90 miles from the U.S. and it still is an active Communist/Socialist government. I'm assuming someone on the President's staff did some analysis and assessing of whether or not that Cuba would be open to becoming more of a capitalistic democracy - now that Fidel Castro is no longer in power.

I'm reaching here - but I would think there's been some deep thought behind the reaching out to Cuba and trying to prop up their economy.

PO2 Mark Saffell - I may have a difference in opinion with the current administration - but I have no doubt they did their analysis and assessments. The problem is within the administration realm - it's politically slanted. I may not agree with their results from their analysis or how they're going about it - you obviously don't either...but doesn't mean they threw darts at a picture of countries we don't like and hit Cuba as the one we want to restore relations with. In my ~19 years of service - there's been things in every administration that have made me wonder "wtf" and how/why...but someone, some where sat down...crunched numbers, looked at historical data/trends, projected future trends, etc... and proposed it as a good idea to the man in the oval office. Or - the man in the oval office painted a picture of what he wanted and his administration went through those steps and came back with a yes sir - good idea answer.

It would be nice to see Politicians surround themselves with people who can't stand them vs yes ma'am/sir types.
