When I asked if Trump's statements were treason a few months ago, that didn't go over real well on RP.
The cockroaches came out of the woodwork to defend the guy and say his statements were just campaign rhetoric. Remember Trump spouted a lot of racist crap? Many RP members loved it.
Now Hayden is just carrying water for the GOP establishment. But the point remains.

I have experienced the same nonsensical response from Trump supporters.
"Oh he's just saying those things for the campaign - I'm sure he'll be different once he's President."
Basically, they just admitted to me that they are willing to vote for a man based on statements *not* made or behavior *not* displayed by their candidate - but surely hopes that he will once they vote him into office.
Awesome.
