I have experienced the same nonsensical response from Trump supporters.
"Oh he's just saying those things for the campaign - I'm sure he'll be different once he's President."
Basically, they just admitted to me that they are willing to vote for a man based on statements *not* made or behavior *not* displayed by their candidate - but surely hopes that he will once they vote him into office.
Awesome.
