Yes Battlefield has changed, but one problem is SOF wanting to be the end all al be all, with out asking for help. The example is all the JTF's we have today are with SOF and regular forces, they don't give regular forces credit for it. The other is we have regular Forces that can and do same thing SOF/SOCOM forces do, like I said it is the two talking together and working together.
The example of the branch that has all the same capabilities as SOF is US Marines. If you take a MUE Multi Purpose Special Capable, they have some special Capabilities that make them a Special Force in them selves. Point is they have ANGLICO (trained the same as TACP and CCT's)also have what is called TRAP (Same type recovery of Aircraft and or pilot as PJ's)Example of that is the rescue in Bosnia that was a TRAP unit not PJ's. They also have CA/HA Capabilities this is where they use us. So if they would open their eyes we have units and even a whole branch that can do same missions maybe lower profile to take the heat off SOCOM. They also have FAST teams that can do hostage recovery operations.
Gen Krulak, wrote something about this in 1999, Called the "Strategic Corporal Leadership" Ended up being called "Three block war concept" is a good read look it up. We did this in Iraq before they used the term COIN.
