Army seeks enlisted women for infantry, armor and 12 other combat jobs

Calling all female soldiers interested in going infantry or armor.
For the first time, the Army has issued a new menu of reclassification options for active Army enlisted women whose careers are stalled in overstrength military occupational specialties to make the switch to infantry, armor and several other combat arms MOSs that until just recently were closed to women.
Under the new career change opportunities, the Army will allow the reclassification, as a secondary MOS, of women soldiers into 14 previously closed combat specialties, many of which do not meet the requirements for a standard primary MOS change as stipulated in the Reclassification In/Out Calls.
Women who meet the In/Out Call rules for a standard primary MOS job change do not require a waiver of policy and can proceed with a regular PMOS reclassification request.

I believe the same thing will happen that what happened to the Navy. They opened up their jobs like EOD to women. Very few did it. Nothing is wrong with the number that go but if they start offering incentives then it is not equal at all. Combat arms might be used to promote and then move back to their MOS. I hope this doesn't happen.

Was there actually an message sent out for women to reclassify into combat jobs? I didn't realize that we encouraged re-classing based on gender. Affirmative action at it's finest.

I would put it in the same sort of MILPER message sent out when we create a new job. For example the various cyber jobs that have been recruiting individuals to reclassify into the new job. There's no bonuses or crazy incentives for a female to reclassify into combat arms, the Army is just putting out the information how to reclass into Combat Arms, so women have waited years for this moment. The major difference is the ability to take it as a secondary MOS if they do not fit the in and out calls of the MOS until space opens or they can be released from their primary MOS.

How I understand your post, I see it very differently. The Army WANTS women in these fields... we have fought for this equality forever... and now its here... I see it more as maybe women are still not sure they want to get into a combat MOS because they will not be welcomed... and this shows them they are welcomed... we cant sit here and complain about not being able to do it and than complain when they encourage us to do it... think outside the sexist box... the Army sees us as equal and that is what matters. We are ALL GREEN.

SFC (Join to see) I'm not against women in combat jobs. It was probably just the wording ArmyTimes used that I disagree with. Specifically targeting women for recruitment into these positions can send the wrong message that only women are wanted. We are ALL GREEN, and recruitment efforts should show that. I agree that we need to foster an environment where women feel comfortable enough to seek out these positions, but I don't want men to get shafted in the process of that happening.
