PFC Al Sethre - Private; The best way to get rich is to start a religion. The second best way to get rich is to start a charity.

[Well, OK, the REALLY best way to get rich is to inherit a whole bunch of money.]

I think if it is a real charity it should be all unpaid volunteers with the funds going to the mission of the charities. All funds for mine go to scholarships for military and national security personnel.

SSgt GG-15 RET Jim Lint - Private; That would be the preferred way. It's also not possible for any charity much bigger than the local level. Of course we could always start a charity to help support unpaid charity workers.

COL Ted Mc - Ted, I would have to say that I proved you completely wrong!! I run a nationwide charity. The COO is in Wash DC, the Ops Manager is in HI, and active duty; an XO to the COO is in Japan also active duty. I am in Las Vegas. We have the timezones covered. We have VOL coordinators on both coast and we have VOL Screeners on both cost. We have press release writes all over and blog writers. We have no physical building. No infrastructure. IF the internet goes out, we are dead in the water. We have awarded 40 scholarships since we started in 2007. Every 6 months are the competitions.

I was involved with the BRAC of FT Monmouth. I was the G2, Director of Intell. Most of the anti-BRAC people said it could not be done, and that the CG could not command if we ran split based operations. I love MG, now GEN Via. I got up and said, that we had 2000 military and civilian in the sandbox and a few hundred in Korea and Japan. He normally does split based ops. If he can not do split based ops from NJ to MD he should be fired, since he was a success doing it from NJ to AFG and Iraq. Virtual organizations can work. He showed that, and we were successful. I was the first sitting director to buy a house and move to MD. It was my 25 move in 36 years at the time.

I was a PVT in 1975, Just as you do not call a CPT who prior enlisted by his enlisted rank. After my 21 years in the military, I made much better rank in Civ Service with the Army. In fact, you., 0-6 and I would be in the same POW camp under Geneva conventions. :) I am have been a PFC since I retired in 1998, and PFC is a famed rank for civilians/vets.

BLUF: We could use your experience at http://www.LintCenter.org
