Probably that Teen, his recruiter, and half the state he tried to join from has no idea what that Flag means or stands for anyway. It is just assumed to be extremist, people are just stupid anymore.

But YOU know what it means? You insult half of a state, and insinuate that you are better than them? Give me a break...

Tattoo's with confederate flags and skulls and death before dishonor around them etc. were very common in the day. So many people had them they went really unnoticed. We are in the PC world now where a feeling might be hurt somewhere out there and we have to move haven and earth to keep that feeling from getting hurt.

There is no "right" to join the Marine Corps so they can set policy. This is just another example of the military having lost it's moorings and now flap like a windsock in a strong zephyr.

lol, call it whatever you want, the flag was and is the most recognized symbol for the confederacy who were fighting for the right to own slaves. Yes it is history, but the type of history we should be particularly proud of. This does not mean that all men fighting fought without honor, nor does it mean all mean fought for the right to own slaves. most actually fought for honor. As in "if my neighbor goes and fights, well I would look like a dirt bag and a coward if I did not go fight." The south was ignorant at the time, still is, and will do whatever they're told, Kinda like out the south leads the rest of the US in every category of poverty and welfare now because they just cling to those dumb values. The US Marine Corp along with every other branch serve under the Stars and Stripes. Why the hell would the marine corp want to represented by the scar of a battle flag?

PO1 (Join to see) - You were making a point, almost seemed valid, right up until you said that the entire South is ignorant. What that does is make you ignorant. There are plenty of people that are from, or live in the South and are not ignorant. I am one of those people.

Last I remember that's the flag of a vanquished foe of the US military. We don't wear Nazi, Japanese, or even British battle flags so why would we wear this one?

The Confederate states seceded from the union. Formed their own government which means the had their own President, economy, and military. The new nation of The Confederate States of America distanced themselves from the founding father of the United States of America and the Constitution of the United States of America (they wiped their A@@es with it). Their military, this foreign country's military killed the service members of our United States of America. You would want someone who waves that flag in the our military?

That is not the flag of the Confederate States of America for starters. That was a battle flag from an Army of Northern VA, think of it like a guidon. Has it been used for ill purposes by racist groups? Yes.

Never once did that flag or the flag of the confederacy fly on a slave ship.

Last time I checked, at that time each state was considered sovereign. SC wasn't a fan of the taxation they were getting levied upon them by the Fed. So secession was imminent. I believe this was around 1830? I'm going off memory. I'm waiting to check in on my cruise ship.

Check out the federalist papers. Jefferson himself said that he envisioned the US being three or more separate nations divided by regionalist. He thought there would be the north US, Southern US, and Western US.

Both sides killed service members of the US. All confederates were granted veteran status by the US years after the war.

To think that a region of the US can't or shouldn't be allowed to secede and form its own independent nation is ludicrous. After all, it's how we came to be wasn't it?

Oh you mean like a German Flag, Japanese Flag, Mexican Flag....how about England's...or any native american heritage tattoos. At one time or another most countries out there had a military that killed the service members of our United States of America...should we ban all their flags?

MSgt Keith F. - You are aware that the United States did not accept nor acknowledge the right of any state to secede and confederate soldiers are also considered U.S. veterans.
