US Army approves first female officers for ground combat

The US Army said Friday it will commission 22 women as infantry and armor officers under historic new rules allowing females to serve in ground combat roles.
Defense Secretary Ash Carter in December announced a sweeping directive to open all military occupations to women this year, including front-line combat roles.
The 22 women have almost finished their officer training, but must still "conduct branch-specific initial training for several months at Fort Benning, Georgia," the Army said in a statement.
They must also demonstrate certain physical requirements before they are fully qualified to start.

I am actually interested in seeing the first females go through IBOLC. Once the new LT's come to the units, im sure they will be anxious to do their best and be great platoon leaders. Ill be probably around my time as an XO by then, I pity the fellow officers and NCO's who try to shortchange them on support and camaraderie. Male or female, we all can be successful in our roles with a good team around us.
I actually think I will see a positive culture shift around this. I can imahine some hot-headed grunts standing up to snide comments or inappropriate remarks about their PL. If anything, I see grunts getting especially dedicated and especially loyal to their female platoon leaders out of sheer respect for what they have decided to take on in a time of change. Who doesn't respect a trailblazer?

Meet the male Army PT standard (officers better exceed them), don't expect special treatment, or move the heck on to something else.
