I always try my best to avoid being a "professional veteran" as being a veteran or having served is not the only thing that defines me. It's almost like saying that is the only thing one has going for them. Be proud of your past and use it to move on to build a better person.

I admit I have distanced myself from veteran's groups for this very reason. I have been out 10 years, I'm proud of my service, but everyday I strive to "be more than my 5 years I served" as so many of my veteran peers get stuck in

I know a great many "professional" veterans. my wife is constantly highlighting that they all live in the past ans act as if they wish they were still in. She wants to help ensure my world gets better after the Army.
