Thanks; what a hoot!!! I loved it even though it had a very sobering ending. I have a solution to their supposed problem: Marriage.

One of my younger engineers is Millennial. For 5 years I tried to coach, train, mentor him into better work habits: he was constantly late for work and extremely lackadaisical in his work, in addition to having zero initiative. I would counsel him about everything, ask if he had any problems and pointed him in the direction of confidential personal counseling services our organization offers. He would just sit there with a half smile on his face and tell me everything was OK. I was at the point of beginning to put together a package I didn’t want to, it had gone that far. I could never understand his behavior. He’s an intelligent person and can perform when he wants to.

Two years ago he fell in love and got married. That woman did in a year and a half what I couldn’t in 5 years. He still has a tendency to be late, but nothing like he used to be. He’s starting to show more initiative and I can see he’s on the right track. I’ll be promoting him shortly to Senior Engineer.

I believe marriage is a very sobering experience. There’s nothing like having someone who depends on you, and that you depend on them… sink or float. In the Army most of us understand this. In my friends case it was just what he needed.

He should take off that Detroit hat if he's going to talk bad on Millennials seeing that they're saving that city.
