Unfortunately, I'd have to agree with the sentiment.

For a military-specific social network, it's actually not at all negative.

However, when it comes to professional networking for job opportunities, it's lacking. There's just a void, or missing link, that could make RP the standard for military career seekers.

Honestly, I consider RP to be more like a LinkedIn group. Plenty of users contribute to various articles of information, some educational, some opportunistic, but most is political, and it's hard to classify a social network as a 'business' platform when it focuses a lot on politics (both military and gov't).

I think the ability to "ignore" certain tags would help with that Politics issue. You're definitely not the first to mention it.

There is going to be increased trend of professional opportunities available on here. This site is still just progressing past it's infancy and beginning to define itself as THE military social network. There is a current outreach program to get more employers engaged, and you will see more and more as the site and our team continue to develop this process.

SGT (Join to see), I've just applied to the Veteran Mentor Group (thanks for your question; it sent me off looking for it), so my opinion may change. But based on what I know today: how you manage your LinkedIn profile drives the professional development you are exposed to. The politics seems a bit more "progressive" on LinkedIn (vs RP) when it emerges, so I understand the "negativity" charge. Since I just applied to the group (watch me be turned down now!), I can't comment on transition help for Service Members. But I will followup later with an update.

Correct me if I'm wrong, sir, but couldn't the "progressive" trend be due to following the bandwagon and not wanting to lose job opportunities for conservative thinking or being that oddball ?

You may be right, SGT (Join to see)...but I've been that oddball for a few years now, so I may be numb to it. My sense (today) is that "progressive" in this context means whatever is trendy or perceived as "cool." Little thought is given to risks/costs, rewards/benefits, or (heaven forbid) failures. Which is OK until the bandwagon runs over you.
