That is interesting but not unsurprising news that Senate lawmakers and their staff are looking into housing stipends SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. The best solution would be to ensure that each housing stipend matches the expenses it was appropriated for. That is probably in the too-hard-to-do box so they are working on to manage and apportion the stipends and adjust as prices change.

Not surprising at all, it's a benefit and they are always being reviewed and subject to cuts. I suspect that there may be more efficient ways to award and monitor housing allowances since the current system has been around for years. What bothers me is the perception in Congress that people are profiting from these benefits. This benefit has always been around to compensate for high cost of living in certain areas that people are stationed. There will always be assignments to these locations, so the need will exist. My fear is that any overhaul will use the same logic that was used to calculate recent COL allowances for everyone. "The cost of gasoline has gone down so there will be no or very small COL increases". This logic totally ignores the fact that the cost of, food, housing, goods, etc. have been constantly on the rise. If this is how an overhaul is conducted, bend over, here it comes!
