When I was stationed in Okinawa in the late 90's, we may have not had the buddy system but we always kept our selves in check. If someone you knew what getting stupid you stepped in an got them into a cab and send them back to base, we would tell the cab drivers to take him to the gate and we would have called to have someone to meet them at the gate.

The problem with the Marines they have been pushing out recently think that watching the backs of their fellow Marines means trying to cover something up and not letting the command know about things that happen. When they should be trying to stop the incident in its entirety before it can occur. They are looking out for them the wrong way. Then there are just the ones that don't know any better and instead of weighing the outcome they want to learn the hard way and everyone pays for their actions. I can honestly say I think most of the time it's the way they were raised and they just don't know better because they think their fellow Marines might think they will be asking a dumb question. I think the only dumb question is the one never asked.
