I listed my company with SAM. If you want to get paid by the government and bid on contracts, you have to be a vendor. Even if you do not have a business office yet, or all you have is a LLC and a dream, completing items for your near future is important. For example, I got my office 2ed Marine Division flag and an ultrasound machine before I had an office.
Yesterday, I had to sign two documents for Medicare. Every day try and move a little closer to crossing the line of departure for your business. I could go on, but I do not want to bore you. It appears most here are into politics. I am more into attacking the enemy. I mean, competing with the competition.

As a former gov't contract specialist, I have to chime in and remind small business owners that registration in SAM is 100% no-cost. You will probably get letters and email from companies telling you that for a price, usually upwards of $1k, they will help you register in SAM. They are trying to SCAM you, and please do report them to the BBB.

Hell tell us more some of us here have our own business. I contract with the county government but would like to provide staff for the v.a.

If you go to SAM and open an account. You will eventually complete the process to be a government vendor. If found the process to be aggravating. But, I wanted to some day be paid by the government for helping my fellow veterans.
I looked at your profile. It appears you are a staff relief company. There maybe regulations beyond the normal vendor application for your company.
My company has to have a Medicare provider number before it can proceed.
Being listed as a government vendor, you could help during disasters with FEMA. I am confident the need for RN's is great during a disaster. We seem to be getting a butt load of them these last 5 years.
