His hayday was well before I started following hockey, but he is a hero here in Detroit and a legend in the sport. Glad to see this post here, GO PENGUINS!!!

RIP Mr. Hockey!
Years ago I was home on leave (I'm from Michigan) and stopped at a sports memorabilia store with my Dad. For sale was a large framed portrait of Gordie Howe and a 7 year old Wayne Gretzky sitting in his lap. The portrait was titled "A Boy and His Hero." It was over $1k, so I didn't buy it!
