I don't have a problem with this either. If a woman can meet the standards, then great. If not, then fine. As long as the standards are a fair representation of what the role requires I don't have a problem with that. If there are men out there who can't meet them either, then that is okay too. The people who are best able to do what the job requires should be the ones doing them. And it should be based on more than someone's opinion.
My feeling is that a woman should be able to compete for the same role as her male counterparts in the military. That doesn't mean she should have to have the job just because of her gender, but she should be able to try for it. That being said, I don't think a woman is necessarily able to do every job that a man can do and vice versa. It's important that though that she has a chance to try for it, if she wants to.

Interesting article, but the time has come after we reflect on the fact that we have been fighting two guerrilla wars, where the enemy is light and moves fast on pick up trucks, the enemy does not carry the heavy loads that we have been carrying; heavy loads that become heavier when wet chasing Taliban through irrigation canals. Standards need to reflect the warfare we are fighting in as well as the enemy's fear of well trained armed women, that can talk to their women and daughters which has the potential of informing on their activities as well as planting seed of revolts against there false misguided religious ideologies. The standards need to accept the fact that Women are a Weapons System that has not been adequately employed; if we can can change the standards on how to use the M-4 compare to the M-16, we can change standards on how we employ women fighters too. Men can bitch about how women can not carry the loads like men which is true, but women can get up close and personal to the enemy's home which is the thing men can not.

Greetings,
It has always been, if a man can not achieve the required standard, then they are shipped out of the tip of the spear. What are the gender neutral standards now?
If anyone thinks all you need is to pass a physical fitness test to protect the perimeter, you have no clue what it means to be physically and mentally capable to fight.
There is a reason young hard charging men are on the perimeter.
For those who do not think my post is PC. , I don't give a bloody hell.

CPT Pedro Meza - Well Pedro,
If you say so, it must be true.
I'm writing about the difference between most men and women. My view is not old. Testosterone is needed in spades when it comes to fighting.
I have no doubt there are some women that can hack it. I believe you will not find many unless you lower standards.
What's next? Force Recon needs standard reduced? We need to evolve right?

Cpl Mark A. Morris - Testosterone is need for continuous repeated work, but for fighting in guerrilla war, estrogen is also useful, more so when you see what women fighters bring to guerrilla warfare were women are feared, therefore you need to have standards for women fighters that are within a majority of women physical abilities. Therefore two sets of standards one for men one for women, most women can not do what men do (a few women can), but no man can do what women do in today's middle east wars.
