Traumatic brain injury has been defined by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke as "acquired brain injury caused by sudden trauma resulting in damage to brain tissue." Mild traumatic brain injury more commonly referred to as concussion, is the most common form of TBI, accounting for 75 percent of all traumatic brain injuries. Concussion affects patients of all ages, most commonly occurring as a result of falls, motor vehicle accidents, assaults and recreational activities

when I was in high school, I was kicked in the head by a colt and the back of my head slammed into a fence post. I had a huge knot along the back of my skull for several days and a pretty bad concussion. I completely lost most of the rest of the evening's memories.

I had a hammer dropped accidentally on my head when I was about 11 year old as we were building a tree house in a neighbors yard. That rang by head for some time.
When I was I'm 4th grade I slopped on the ice as I was walking to school and hit my head as I must have fallen backwards. I had amnesia throughout the day and apparently demonstrated signs of concussion.
My clock has been rung a few times over the years - sometimes in the military.
What doesn't kill us can make us stronger and can certainly make us more compassionate.
