As a Marine cannon-cocker I attended artillery schools in Fort Sill on three different occasions. Marine Artillery officers go there to get the 0802 MOS as well. I'm not sure when that became standard but Colonel Francis Fox Perry mentioned in his book "Three War Marine" that Fort Sill trained artillery officers were a prized asset in the Corps in early WW2.
One little known fact is that the Legendary Marine "Chesty" Puller was briefly an Artillery Officer at Quantico prior to WW2.
