The cream will always rise to the top. Those who are destined to stand out can do so without sabotaging others. I have seen officers and NCOs alike work to support all in an effort to ensure the success of the mission, often times by putting others first. It always comes out in the wash. So, set your sites and press forward, take care of your Soldiers and support your peers, this alone will ensure mission accomplishment. Thank you for your service.

CW3 (Join to see) when I give my officers their initial counseling I tell them what they MUST do to be successful and perform their job and then what they must do in order to be considered for "top block". They decide if they want to compete or not. I find that it sorts itself out a bit already. However, I do put for all of them that they MUST work well with each other, assist their peers, and leave their egos at home. I have been lucky so far with the various groups I have had that I never had an issue of competitive nature getting in the way of mission accomplishment and the success of the organization.

MAJ Rene De La Rosa
MAJ Brian Maurelli, this makes complete sense. Those who take the mantle and grab the top block are ways eager to please. Those who fight the rater either don't like them and don't want to follow the rules. I have found these are likely to be toxic leaders because they show their true colors.
