100% is the highest Military Disability Rating possible and thus provides the highest Military Disability Benefits to Disabled Veterans.
The DoD and the VA will only give 100% Disabled Veteran Benefits for service-connected conditions. The DoD takes this a step further and only gives 100% Disabled Veteran Benefits for service-connected conditions that also make a service member Unfit for Duty.
100% Disabled Veteran Benefits entitles the veteran to the maximum amount of compensation given for all VA Disability and DoD Disability.
100% Disabled Veteran Benefits are only given in cases where the veteran is entirely unable to work and mostly unable care for himself, including bathing and dressing.
The most common instances where 100% Disabled Veteran Benefits are given are cases where there is amputation or paralysis of two or more limbs.

100% Disabled Veteran Benefits for Active Diseases
100% Disabled Veteran Benefits are always given if a veteran has an active case of a disease like cancer or tuberculosis. In these cases, the 100% Disabled Veteran Benefits are only applicable WHILE the disease is in progress. If a disease qualifies for 100% Disabled Veteran Benefits, it will be clearly stated in the discussion of that condition on this site.
The DoD will only give 100% Disabled Veteran Benefits for active diseases when a service member is on the Temporary Disability Retired List (TDRL) or when a service member’s disease is terminal. A service member is put on TDRL when a condition is expected to improve, so the DoD will put all service members with cases of active diseases that are not terminal on TDRL until their diseases are no longer active.
Since the VA will rate a veteran’s condition as it changes over time, the VA will give 100% Disabled Veteran Benefits any time a veteran’s disease is active, and stop giving them whenever it is inactive. If it becomes active again at any time in the future, then the VA will again give 100% Disabled Veteran Benefits while it remains active. Similarly, the VA will give a veteran 100% Disabled Veteran Benefits anytime he is hospitalized for a service-connected condition.

All veterans who qualify to receive 100% Disabled Veteran Benefits from the VA will receive full medical care for their conditions and a monthly monetary payment.
This payment is the same amount for every veteran who qualifies to receive 100% Disabled Veteran Benefits and can fluctuate if they have children or other dependents. Our VA Disability Chart notes the current amounts given for 100% Disabled Veteran Benefits every month.
In addition to this standard compensation, many veterans who qualify for 100% Disabled Veteran Benefits are also eligible to receive Special Monthly Compensation from the VA.

100% Disabled Veteran Benefits from the DoD
For 100% Disabled Veteran Benefits, the DoD gives the veteran full medical care and a monthly payment for the rest of his life.
Since the veteran has a 100% Military Disability Rating, the amount of this payment is equal to the veteran’s average salary for his last three years in the military. So, if his average monthly salary over the past three years was $1500, he’ll receive $1500 every month for the rest of his life.

Receiving 100% Disabled Veteran Benefits from the DoD and the VA
Veterans cannot receive monetary 100% Disabled Veteran Benefits from both the DoD and the VA. This means that the amount of VA Disability a veteran receives will decrease the amount of DoD Disability he receives.
Let’s simplify. Basically, if the DoD is giving $700/month and the VA begins giving $400/month, then the DoD will decrease its amount to $300/month (700 – 400 = 300).
This may seem cruel and unusual, but the good thing about this is that the money from the VA is not taxable, while the DoD’s is.
This does not apply to medical care. All veterans who qualify for 100% Disabled Veteran Benefits will still be able to receive full medical care from the DoD.
The only way to get around this rule is if you qualify for Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay (CRDP) or Combat Related Special Compensation (CRSC).

As a 100% Service Connected Permanent for my wound's received in combat. It is imperative that those seeking their entitled disability continue to fight and constantly follow up with the the VA. My wife and I have been greatly blessed by God, because he has given us the wisdom in preparing and following up with all the medical issues incurred during my year's of service, after I was wounded and I will still continue keep up with any ongoing changes that may apply. It's not an easy tasking filling out all the paper works and the long waits, but if a Retiree or Former Service Member keeps good records of their medical issues and read up on the "wording of the injuries" they had in service, then that person has a higher probability of knowing what the outcome will be.
As a 100% Service Connected Permanent for my wound's received in combat. It is imperative that those seeking their entitled disability continue to fight and constantly follow up with the the VA. your retirement pay is tax free if the disability is combat related, so you can get a check from the VA tax free, a check from DFAS tax free and CRSC tax free.

Any money received as a disability payment from the VA is tax free combat or not. From 10% to 100%
