On your way out...? I know it goes against the grain, but, it's time to get on social media. Specifically, LinkedIn.
As servicemembers, we are trained to limit our internet presence, for operations security (OPSEC), and just general best practice. However, that lack of web presence can hurt you when you're look for a job or career outside of the military. One of the things that many, if not the majority, of recruiters look at when determining if you would be a good fit for their employer, is what they can find on you on the web.
So what does that mean for you? First of all, you want to do some spring cleaning. Search yourself on popular search engines. If you can find any derogatory information about yourself in the first few pages of search results, make sure to clean that up and get it off the net! After you've done that, it's time to work on your professional presence, your world-wide electronic billboard to attract recruiters and potential employers to you. Get started with some of the tips provided in this link.
It was written with students in mind, and I admit, it's a little dry. But, the information you need is there to get started building a good foundation for your profile. Don't sell yourself short. Give yourself every opportunity to succeed on your way into the private sector.

Thank you for the share. It is very true that a bad social media presence will hinder your chances of finding post-military employment. Even worse may be having no social media presence at all.
I am still working on my social media branding as I only ever used it a little bit for military recruiting purposes, but never for my own self-branding.
Those who plan to leave the military within the next two years should start on networking online and getting their LinkedIn, Twitter, and other social media sites actively engaged. Networking is the way you are going to land a career, not filling out applications and sending them into the black abyss of the ATS.
