The Democratic Party is precisely what it seems to me. They refashioned themselves in the 1960's and announced their intentions. All you have to do is listen to what they said and you know precisely what they are: The Rainbow Coalition. All things to all people. In other words, abandon all principles and join the party. Having said that, I must also mention that the author of this article is propagating his own myth: That the Progressive Movement is for the people. Sorry, folks. That just ain't so. The Progressive Movement is all about replacing limited government with an all powerful central government. Yes, they want to do everything for everybody but there's a price. In exchange for freedom from responsibility you surrender all other rights and freedoms. And replace the balance of powers in three Branches of government with an Administrative Government that legislates, enforces, and adjudicates.

1LT Aaron Barr - Dear God, how many times must I respond to this canard? Progressivism has nothing to do with "progress". The Progressive Movement is about the establishment of an Administrative Government, one which has absolute power similar to monarchs and dictators, only it is vested in an all powerful bureaucracy which has the authority to create rules and regulations (laws), enforce them, and adjudicate disputes. Remember how Nancy Pelosi said that we'd have to pass Obamacare to see what was in it? That's because it was only enabling legislation and we had to wait for the bureaucrats to interpret it and issue the rules and regulations. Ever hear of administrative courts? Well, we have them. Any dispute with Social Security, the IRS, EPA, et al and you'll find yourself in an administrative court where Constitutional Rights against self-incrimination and due process don't apply. That's the fruits of progressivism. You call that "progress"? I don't.

CPT Jack Durish - You voted up my comment which, I assume, means that you read the last sentence. Progress is a change; what we've changed into from the Founding, ESPECIALLY since the progressive movement, is wholly bad. I was agreeing with you, my point was to demonstrate to people who like the idea of 'progressivism' exactly towards and away from what we're 'progressing.
