August 7th is National Purple Heart Day. What does that mean to you? To me, it is a day to reflect on those who earned the medal as a result of being killed in action. Then it is a day to remember all of those who struggle daily to overcome the adversities associated with being horribly maimed or wounded. And finally, it is a day to remember all of my fellow Purple Heart Veterans, and makes me think back to all those close-calls and 'could have been' moments in my deployment.
