National Guard soldier mauled by bear at base in Alaska

Another bear attack at Alaskian base...

Anyone stationed or visited up there? Is it wide open with lots of bear activity or is it only part of the base that is open to the wide animals? Are we too close to them or they too close to us?

We'll have to hear from folks stationed in Alaska. They would be the authority on RallyPoint on this question, right? I visited there for a month of arctic training a long time ago, and there were no bears in sight.
