As long as the Obama administration didn't get a deal for the latest decade agreement of $40B foreign aid. After the infamous airport meeting between Bill and AG Lynch, nothing is off the table.

It just shows how ignorant of history and international affairs Trump is. None of the major countries have their embassies in Jerusalem, and they don't recognize it as solely Israeli territory. Which is why both republican and democratic presidents have refused to put our embassy in Jerusalem. But since Trump will tell anyone whatever they want to hear, it's no surprise Trump agreed with Netanyahu on this.

And as for that "long standing congressional mandate" that law was struck down irt congress stating the State Dept must, upon request, but the country of Israel for someone born in Jerusalem, superseding US foreign policy. The SCOTUS voted 6-3 to nix that because congress doesn't set foreign policy. So there is no long standing mandate that any president needs to pay attention to.

Is Jerusalem to be Isreal's capital or Palestine's, or some international hub for either the UN or Russia? It looks like the US would potentially move an embassy there and the only reasonable objection would be from outside interests or Palestine. Sure, it may not be important to meddle in foreign affairs but Isreal is a long-standing ally of the US and the issue seems to have no real solution.

We know Hillary's stance:
"PETITIONER
M. B. Z., By His Parents and Guardians Ari Z. Zivotofsky, et ux.
RESPONDENT
Hillary Rodham Clinton, Secretary of State

On remand, the State Department explained, among other things, that in the present circumstances if "Israel" were to be recorded as the place of birth of a person born in Jerusalem, such "unilateral action" by the United States on one of the most sensitive issues in the negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians "would critically compromise" the United States' ability to help further the Middle East peace process. "

Don't want to offend the moderates. This was seen before the SCOTUS ruling but gives isight, I think people can see what direction either candidate will go on the issue, which still exists politically.

The "only reasonable objection" as you say is that the world community never has and doesn't now consider Jerusalem to be the sole territory of the Israeli state. So Trump is unwittingly playing into Netanyahu's illegal land grab.

About damned time, actually. To me, this is one of several examples where the Unites States has tried to meddle in another country's internal affairs without a compelling reason for it. Why should a country not be allowed to choose its own name or capitol?
