This is not surprising, Google has their hand in everything now. In order to maintain history they have to record searches. when you delete search history it is on your local machine. Their database is presumably untouched as you want limited access to any database. Thanks as always for the post SGT (Join to see)

I like to tell others that many times what you "delete" is simply removed from your sight. Many big data companies have policies that state such data will be removed from their data center "within a short time", which is neither able to be proven or definite.

Everything you do on the internet is tracked, categorized, analyzed and saved forever. That's how "we" make sure you're having the best (read "most profitable") experience. If you don't want Google to track you, only search using your browser's incognito mode and install extensions like Ghostery and Disconnect. Oh and disable the Battery API if you use Firefox (you can't currently in Chrome).

Or DuckDuckGo, Startpage, Privacy Badger, VPN's, TOR, etc.

Yep - deleting you history only erased the local searches on your computer.
Likewise - going incognito only hides your searches from casual hackers.
