you can't overstate the importance of strong hips. This is a test that can show a lot of things, the guy showing the test is very biomechanics and I tend to not talk that way anymore. I can't tell you he's wrong and I'm right, it's just a difference in how we are trying to get to the same goal - safely getting patients squatting.

Hip strengthening and mobility is very important and often overlooked. I recently attended a physical therapy session and learned that the reasons I have leg problems, shin splints, and ankle problems is because my hips are weak. According to my physical therapist, people should be able to perform a pistol squat (one legged squat). Working on it pretty diligently!

I cheat and hold a 24 pound weight plate in front during pistol squats. Without that, I have to be bare foot or I become someone's laugh of the day.
