The 1940 Tacoma Narrows Bridge, the first Tacoma Narrows Bridge, was a suspension bridge in the U.S. state of Washington that spanned the Tacoma Narrows strait of Puget Sound between Tacoma and the Kitsap Peninsula. It opened to traffic on July 1, 1940, and dramatically collapsed into Puget Sound on November 7 of the same year. At the time of its construction (and its destruction), the bridge was the third-longest suspension bridge in the world in terms of main span length, behind the Golden Gate Bridge and the George Washington Bridge.

This was a most interesting Video... where the bridge surface came to rest is in 185-180 feet of water and landed in such a manner it created a partial bowl now filled partially with sand... it is a great place to spearfish for Ling-Cod and other large game fish... and it is really dark and cold in that water... the Dives have to be timed as almost slack Tide and compression stops have to planned... as you only have a bout 8-12 minutes of Bottom Time...
It's a Hot Boat Dive because the Currents can pick up to 6-8 kt in either direction very quickly......

Thanks for the film and the memories. I am a former bridge designer. This is one of a few colossal design disasters that are mandatory study (or at least were when I was in school) to stress the importance of some aspects of design features that otherwise some people wouldn’t think about twice.
