Thanks for the post, SGT (Join to see). I believe we may find out that you are correct. The Mars Rovers aren't the first to address this question. Viking 1 and 2 did so back in the 1970s (I worked for one of the NASA Viking scientists several years ago). Here's a NatGeo article that further supports the one you posted from space.com.
