I love the title, misleading and sensationalist, I expect nothing less from breitbart. This is directly from your ridiculous source: "are unable to manage those benefits because of their mental impairment, or who have been found by a state or federal court to be legally incompetent." Yeah, if you don't have the mental capacity to handle your own daily life I probably have some questions regarding your ability to determine life or death with a firearm.

Capt Chris McVeigh The PDF of the SSA's regs was also posted for the benefit of those who are unable to see beyond their own bias (killing the messanger syndrome). Just remember that VA med and military records are government property easily accessed.

Seems like a good idea but where will it end?? What if someone decides that just owning a gun means that you're mentally unstable?

@SPC Jeff Castle SPC Jeff Castle and therein is the rub. I doubt that any of the recent mass shooters were receiving SSI/SSDI and the Aurora shooter was mentally ill but HIPPA prevented his therapist from warning LE.

You bring up another good point. There should more reciprocity between agencies, it's like they enjoy keeping secrets from each other!! CPO Andy Carrillo, MS -

Why is the Social Security Administration involved in gun ownership? I sense over-reach here.

The entitlement becomes the government's lever...big enough to give, big enough to take away. So rather than enforcing existing laws (enhanced sentencing) they create more laws for criminals to ignore.
