Always an interesting question and always the trigger for intense debate. Ultimately, I don't believe because I have some special insight, no divine revelation, and no, I don't trust theological texts which are fraught with the evidence of human manipulation. I believe simply because I have to believe to preserve my sanity. I have to believe in divine or ultimate justice to offset the knowledge that justice is elusive in this life. Criminals and terrorists often "get away" with evil deeds. Yes, that's frustrating. But it not quite as frustrating if you accept mom's wisdom that "Life isn't fair" but accept faith that "God is fair".

I believe because I experienced God's amazing grace. I was interested in drugs, sex and rock and roll. A Christian friend told me about Jesus. I was alone doing some choirs and it dawned on me, I had a decision to make. I chose Christ. It was the most remarkable experience of my life. Christ lifted me higher than I imagined I would ever go! Truely remarkable.

SPC (Join to see) - it is not about the Church, it is about God. Weed had me high but not much else. There is an article on RP today about weed and illness. One individual,now in his 30's realized he has accomplished very little.

LTC David Brown I worded it that way because I can't be sure I ever really believed there are any gods. I may have when I was younger. But the more I learned and experienced, the less the label of theism applied to me, up until the point I rejected the concept out-right. Weed was more fun, but like church, felt detrimental and I eventually grew out of it.
